“Allow me to address not the women in our family, but the women who care for the children and parents of others. The women who work in care homes, who work in nurseries every day, taking care of our parents, taking care of our children,” stated Pedro Nuno Santos during a speech in Bragança, marking the conclusion of the seventh day of campaigning for the upcoming elections on the 18th.
The PS leader emphasized that, “for those unaware,” these women “earn very little.”
Pedro Nuno Santos further argued that “a decent country is one that dignifies the women who care for other people’s children.”
He pointed out that the vast majority of these caregivers are women who “dedicate their lives to caring for the elderly and the children of our country.” Santos made a point to acknowledge this in a district characterized by an aging population where many work in elderly care institutions.
Recalling that women “work outside of the home and inside the home,” Pedro Nuno Santos highlighted that “women in Portugal still work double.”
