Pedro Nuno promises scrutinizable measures with “immediate results”

At the presentation of the Socialist electoral program this afternoon in Lisbon, the leader of the Socialist Party stepped forward to detail and politically explain ten measures highlighted by the socialists in the document they will take to the elections on May 18.

“These are about 10 measures that we will adopt, which are easily scrutinizable and monitorable. They are concrete measures that allow the Portuguese people to visualize the program of the Socialist Party and our priorities,” he stated.

Pedro Nuno Santos emphasized his desire to establish a relationship with the public that is “transparent and truthful,” assuring that the measures are “not of unpredictable results.”

“They are easy decisions with immediate or direct results,” he added.

The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party highlighted priorities such as increasing salaries, reducing the cost of living, housing, the National Health Service (SNS), and family time as key elements of the “future project” they wish to bring to Portugal.

One of the aspects Pedro Nuno Santos focused on during the presentation was the situation of Portuguese citizens who “feel that their lives are not progressing” with “excessively low wages.”

“To cope with difficulties, families need to see their purchasing power increase or the cost of living decrease. The country’s public finances provide some leeway for the State to contribute to this goal by reducing taxes,” he argued.

However, for the PS leader, the taxes that need reducing “are not the taxes that only a part of the population pays,” but rather “the taxes that everyone pays when buying essentials.”
