The Chega party’s deputy, Pedro Pinto, is set to stand again for the role of parliamentary leader, a position he has held since 2022, while deputies Rita Matias and Cristina Rodrigues will serve as vice-presidents, according to an official party source.
The election for the leadership of Chega’s parliamentary group is scheduled for Wednesday.
The proposed vote will keep Pedro Pinto as the parliamentary leader but includes changes to the rest of the team.
Deputy Rita Matias, elected from Setúbal and already part of the group leadership, will become the first vice-president. At 26, she is the leader of Juventude Chega and an assistant to the National Directorate.
Besides Rita Matias, Deputy Jorge Galveias will continue as vice-president. He was elected from Évora in the last legislature, having led the list from Aveiro in the previous two.
Joining the leadership of the Chega parliamentary group are Deputy Cristina Rodrigues, elected from the Porto circle, and parliamentarians Nuno Gabriel and Daniel Teixeira, both elected from the Setúbal list.
Meanwhile, Deputies Rui Paulo Sousa and Marta Silva will step down from the leadership of the Chega parliamentary group.
Earlier this month, André Ventura, the president of Chega, suggested that Deputy Pedro Pinto should remain the party’s parliamentary leader in the XVII Legislature and anticipated changes in the rest of the group’s leadership.
Pedro Pinto, elected from the Faro circle, has led Chega’s parliamentary group since 2022 when the party first secured a parliamentary group with 12 deputies.
