The Social Security Portal now offers an instant Old Age Pension through the “Pensão na Hora” service, provided by the Instituto da Segurança Social (ISS).
In its November newsletter, Social Security states that the “Pensão na Hora” service allows individuals to bypass travel and waiting times. If eligible, one can have their request processed on the same day, with the allocation of a provisional pension.
Additionally, users can track the status of their request and access their documents online at any time.
Key Conditions for ‘Pensão na Hora’
According to Social Security, an online request is processed the same day if the following conditions are met:
- At least 15 years of contributions;
- The request does not fall under a special situation;
- No outstanding contribution debts as a self-employed worker;
- Registered national address or IBAN online.
How to Apply Online?
To apply, Social Security advises following these steps:
- Access “Work” from the main menu of the Social Security Portal
- Select “Retirement and Disability”
- Click “Old Age Pension” and then “Consult and request Old Age Pension”.
“Applying online is the fastest route to your retirement,” Social Security concludes.
Government Advances December Pensions (with Christmas Bonus)
The Government has decided to advance the payment of December pensions, including the Christmas bonus, as announced on social media. Pensioners from Social Security will receive their payments on December 5.
Typically, pensions are paid on the 8th of each month. The Government explains the advance is due to the 8th of December being a holiday.
“December’s pensions and the Christmas bonus will be paid earlier: on Friday, December 5. The advance is because December 8, the usual payment day, is a holiday,” reads the joint statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
This means the payment occurs before the long weekend, highlighted by the Government.
Meanwhile, pensioners from Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) will receive the Christmas bonus along with their pension on November 19, according to the schedule posted online by the institution.
December’s pensions and the Christmas bonus will be paid on Friday, December 5. The Government explains that the “advance is due to December 8, the usual payment day, coinciding with the holiday”.

The Minister of Labor stated in Parliament that the lowest pensions are expected to see a 2.79% increase in 2026, and the allocation of an extraordinary supplement, similar to this year, will depend on budget leeway.
During the budget discussions for 2026 (OE2026), the Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to “increase pensions at the legal rate” and, “subject to budget leeway,” to provide a new extraordinary supplement for pensioners with lower pensions.
