The Social Security pensions will be paid on Friday, August 8, and will reflect the new rates applied under the latest IRS tables, which “reduce the rate applied to pensions,” reminded the Instituto da Segurança Social (ISS).
According to the payment calendar released by the organization at the beginning of the month, the August pensions will be paid tomorrow via bank transfer and postal orders as usual.
The update is that both Social Security and the Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) will process August pensions according to the new IRS withholding tables, resulting in a higher net pension this month.
It should be noted that CGA pensions are paid on August 19, as per the schedule available here.

The Instituto da Segurança Social explained that from this August, pensions will be paid with the new rates applied under the IRS tables. We explain in this article what the changes are.

What changes?
In a statement published on its website, the ISS explains that “in August and September, withholding at the source will be lower to correct the amounts withheld in excess during the first seven months of the year.”
Then, “from October, the normal tables that will remain until the end of the year come into effect.”
Additionally, “from September, you can request, if you wish, a withholding rate higher than that corresponding to your bracket.”
In the same note released, the ISS reveals that “to obtain your Pension Receipt, access the Declaration Area of the Social Security Portal and select Get Pension Receipts,” and that the “pension receipt is also available on the Social Security Mobile App.”

In 2024, it should be remembered, the tax also decreased mid-year, and when the Government released the new tables at the end of August, with new values to be applied in September, Social Security and the CGA had already processed pensions for the following month. Therefore, they only applied the new rates in October, making adjustments for September’s pensions. This time, the forecast is different.
In September, there is an extraordinary supplement
In September, besides the usual pension, pensioners receiving up to 1,567.5 euros gross monthly will receive an extraordinary supplement, which varies depending on the pension amount and can be 100, 150, or 200 euros.
This supplement will not be subject to withholding at the source because the Government decided to exclude it from the monthly collection.
In the decree-law that created the supplement, published in the Diário da República on July 18, it is explicitly stated that the amount “is not subject to withholding tax on individuals.” At the same time, it is also protected as “unseizable” and “is not relevant for the calculation of the amount of the solidarity supplement for the elderly.”
