
Data from the European statistical service indicates that in 2024, nine EU member states recorded a per capita actual individual consumption higher than the EU average, while ten showed a per capita gross domestic product (GDP) above the bloc’s average.
The highest levels were observed in Luxembourg (141%), the Netherlands (120%), and Germany (118%).
Conversely, 18 EU countries reported a per capita consumption below the EU average, with the lowest figures in Hungary (72%), Bulgaria, and Estonia (74%).
Portugal ranks 17th with a per capita actual individual consumption of 85%.
Regarding GDP per capita, a measure of economic activity, ten EU member states exceeded the EU average, led by Luxembourg (242%), followed by Ireland (211%) and the Netherlands (136%).
At the other end, Bulgaria recorded the lowest GDP per capita at 66% of the EU average, followed by Greece (70%) and Latvia (71%).
Portugal is positioned 18th among the 27 EU countries, with a GDP per capita of 82%.
