A 21-year-old man has been detained by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in connection with an attempted homicide in Régua, located in the district of Vila Real.

According to a statement received on Wednesday, the attempted homicide occurred on September 12, although the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect took place only recently.

The PJ explained that the incident happened in the Bairro de Lagoas area, where the suspect allegedly armed himself with a firearm and fired at the victim, a 37-year-old man who required hospitalization.

Authorities stated that “the motive for the aggression is a territorial dispute between rival families.”

The detainee will now face a judicial hearing to determine the application of coercive measures.
