PGR does not confirm intention to open an inquiry into PM. Investigation continues.

The Office of the Attorney General (PGR) clarified today that the preliminary investigation concerning the company Spinumviva is ongoing, with the Public Ministry still awaiting documentation, meaning the investigation continues.

“At this moment, there is no formed conviction that would allow the closure of the mentioned preliminary investigation, nor has anything been presented to the Attorney General in this domain,” stated a PGR communiqué.

The PGR further clarified that the preliminary investigation regarding Spinumviva is ongoing and that the Public Ministry “is still awaiting documentation that will subsequently require analysis.”

The PGR’s clarification follows a CNN Portugal report suggesting that those responsible for the preliminary investigation into Spinumviva’s activities (the controversial company linked to the Prime Minister) regarding the construction of Luís Montenegro’s house in Espinho and the origin of funds for acquiring two apartments in Lisbon, properties within the Prime Minister’s patrimonial sphere, believe the case can only be clarified in the context of a criminal proceeding, which would formally need to be initiated at the Supreme Court of Justice.

The inquiry is expected to be classified under suspicions of potential crimes of illicit advantage receipt and money laundering, according to CNN Portugal, which mentioned that the preliminary investigation already had conclusions.

According to CNN Portugal, “the final decision will lie with the Attorney General, and if they agree with the solution, the inquiry will, once registered, be led by an assistant attorney general, considering the position of the investigated individual.”
