During the month of April, the mandatory period for the Declaration of Swine Stocks (DES) takes place, as announced by the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary Affairs (DGAV).
Typically, pigs are reported in April, August, and December.
If this requirement is not met, pig farmers may face penalties, including the suspension of the issuance of transportation guides for live pigs via the iDigital system until compliance is achieved.
The declarations can be submitted by the operator on the portal of the Institute for the Financing of Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP), at the departments of the Regional Food and Veterinary Services, or through agricultural organizations that have agreements with IFAP.
This health measure aims to control Aujeszky’s disease.
The virus, which affects the respiratory and reproductive systems of pigs, can also be transmitted from pigs to other animals.
