Pinto Luz highlights the “relevance to the national economy” of António Mota

“Today we bid farewell to António Mota, an inspiring leader who left a mark on the country and whose life intertwined with the history of Mota-Engil, one of the nation’s largest construction companies,” read a condolence note from the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, sent to the Lusa news agency.

Miguel Pinto Luz expressed his “deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and all those who worked with him,” acknowledging that António Mota was a “figure of enormous relevance to the national economy,” taking “Portuguese engineering and construction further by transforming a family business into an international reference in the sector.”

“The country loses a significant figure, but his legacy remains,” he stated.

The former president of Mota-Engil, António Mota, passed away today in Porto at the age of 71, as announced by the Mota-Engil Group in a statement released today.

“The Mota-Engil Group deeply regrets and announces with great sorrow the passing of engineer António Mota this morning in the city of Porto, a historic leader of the group who held the presidency for over 27 years, from 1995 to January 2023.”

According to the information provided by the group, the wake will take place at 10:30 am on Monday at the Church of São Gonçalo in Amarante, followed by a mass at 3:00 pm at the same location. The procession will then proceed to the family vault in the cemetery of that city, where António Mota was born.
