This morning, at the headquarters of the PJ in Lisbon, Luís Neves addressed journalists regarding the presence of members of criminal organizations linked to drug trafficking in Portugal, confirming that the individual arrested last week in Cascais is ‘Hulk’, a member of the PCC.
Luís Neves emphasized “the diligent, persistent, and meticulous work by the PJ professionals that led to the capture of one of the most significant elements of this criminal organization [the PCC].”
This PCC member and his wife were detained last week under two international arrest warrants issued by Brazil for crimes of criminal association, corruption, and money laundering, as informed by PJ last Saturday.
Both remain in preventive custody by decision of the Lisbon Court of Appeal while awaiting extradition proceedings, a source connected to the process revealed to Lusa.
Regarding the presence of such organization members on national territory, the PJ’s national director admitted that the number “may have probably increased” and explained that this phenomenon can be attributed to various factors: the intensified efforts by Brazilian authorities in combating drug trafficking, the proximity between the two countries, and the language issue.
Drug trafficking from Brazil to Portugal is a problem that “commands the full attention” of the Polícia Judiciária, assured Luís Neves, speaking on the sidelines of the conference “Sexual Crimes: Building Change,” held today.
