PJ arrests in Almada a former police officer wanted in Brazil for drug trafficking

A 39-year-old Brazilian man, wanted in Brazil for crimes of criminal association and drug trafficking, was apprehended in Almada, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced on Thursday in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto.

According to inspectors, the suspect is a former police officer who was investigated over the summer for his involvement in a criminal organization that included other police officers. These individuals, after deviating from their official duties, engaged in the misappropriation of seized items and illicit drug trafficking.

For these alleged acts, committed in a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, the man could face up to 23 years in prison.

Immediately following the commission of these crimes, the Brazilian fled, initially to Paraguay and later to Portugal, where he arrived around mid-July this year.

The man will now be presented before the Lisbon Court of Appeal for the determination of appropriate coercive measures.
