
The Azores Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ has reported the arrest of an individual following an investigation conducted on São Miguel Island. The operation was initiated after disclosures by the victim during psychological counseling.
According to a statement from the PJ, the investigation established that the abuses began when the girl was nine years old and continued until she was 11. The PJ further stated that the suspect exploited his familial relationship and proximity to the child to commit the acts.
The detainee, who is strongly suspected of repeatedly committing aggravated sexual abuse of children against his stepdaughter, was subjected to a judicial interrogation and has been placed under house arrest, as detailed in the PJ’s report.
