A man was apprehended by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Monday, suspected of attempting to murder another man in Santa Margarida, Tavira. The incident took place on June 26.
A statement issued to newsrooms by the PJ indicates that the investigation clarified “the facts that occurred following a legal dispute between the aggressor and the victim, related to a construction contract.”
“The suspect used a firearm, hitting the victim in the shoulder while he was traveling in his vehicle,” the document states.
The victim “required medical treatment at the Faro hospital center” and has since been discharged.
Due to the investigation, “significant evidential elements were gathered, allowing the competent judicial authorities to issue out-of-court arrest warrants and conduct house searches.”
“As a result of the searches, relevant items were collected that aid in clarifying the facts and materials that could implicate the suspect in the crimes of possessing an illegal weapon,” it adds.
The detained individual will be presented to the competent judicial authority for interrogation and the application of appropriate coercive measures.
