The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced on Monday that a 61-year-old man has been identified and detained, “strongly suspected of committing a double homicide,” which occurred last night in Montijo.
In a statement sent to the media, the PJ explained that “the events under investigation date back to yesterday, November 16, when the suspect went to a restaurant in Montijo and fired several shots from a firearm, for reasons not yet completely determined, resulting in the deaths of two victims.”
The deceased victims are two men, father and son, aged 60 and 23, respectively.
According to the PJ, the suspect already has “criminal records for the crimes of kidnapping and vehicle theft” and will appear tomorrow, November 18, for a preliminary judicial hearing for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
The investigation will continue to “ascertain the facts” leading to the homicides and recover the firearm used in the crime.
Two men were shot on Sunday night at the restaurant O Apeadeiro Sarilhos, at a time when several customers were inside the establishment.
The victims were transported in serious condition to Barreiro Hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
It appears that the victims and the suspect, who is reportedly a partner in the restaurant, had a disagreement related to the establishment’s profits. The National Republican Guard (GNR) was called to the scene.
Following the argument, the suspect, identified as José Augusto, left the premises but “returned shortly after” armed and shot Pedro Ganança and his son, Lucas, before fleeing the scene.
