PJ conducts searches at Boavista Stadium

The Polícia Judiciária is conducting searches at the Estádio do Bessa, Porto.

Investigations at Boavista Futebol Clube’s stadium are underway due to potential economic crimes, including money laundering. Further information on the operation will be provided later by the PJ.

Key targets include former Boavista president Vitor Murta, with searches occurring at club officials’ homes and related lawyers’ and accountants’ offices.

Recently, Boavista was unable to register for the 2025/26 Liga 3 season due to financial non-compliance, as previously occurred with professional licensing.

The lack of no-debt certificates from the Tax Authority and Social Security led to this decision by the FPF’s Licensing Commission, also citing reduced financial and economic capacity of Boavista’s SAD.

Insufficient financial documentation resulted in Boavista’s Liga 3 exclusion, confirmed by a source familiar with the case.

Additionally, an insolvency process was filed with the Vila Nova de Gaia Commercial Court.

“Due to the non-approval of the Special Revitalization Process (PER), decreased revenue from administrative relegation [from II Liga], and lack of out-of-court solutions ensuring economic viability and inherited commitments, the Boavista SAD had no choice but to declare insolvency for complete restructuring,” explained the organization led by Senegalese Fary Faye.

PJ inspectors are investigating potential corruption and mismanagement that led to Boavista’s insolvency and descent to district leagues.

The club was relegated to II Liga in May, after finishing the 2024/25 I Liga season in 18th place with 24 points, ending an 11-year top-tier run.
