PJ conducts searches on the property of the boyfriend of missing Brazilian woman

The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) conducted house searches on Wednesday morning at the property of the boyfriend of a missing Brazilian woman in Tabuaço, in the Viseu district.

The searches were carried out by five PJ inspectors and targeted a site in Catujal, in the Loures municipality, where Luís Jesus keeps animals and is known to frequent.

The man has been questioned twice by authorities.

Maria Francisca dos Santos, aged 44, has been missing for a month and a half. According to neighbors, she was last seen taking out the trash on the night of June 20.

Her brother, António Santos, explained to the Brazilian website G1 that Maria Francisca left the lights on in her home and did not take any documents. She only had her mobile phone with her, whose last location was recorded near the trash bin.

The disappearance was reported to authorities the following day by Luís Jesus and her employer, who found it unusual that she had not shown up for work.

Luis and Maria Francisca, who has been living in Portugal for four years and had obtained residency permits, reportedly met on the dating app Badoo, which is popular among the Brazilian community.

It was later revealed that the relationship between Luís Jesus and Maria Francisca was marked by deceit. According to Correio da Manhã, on July 23, the man has been living with a woman for over 15 years and is not a surgeon at CUF Lisbon, contrary to what he had told the Brazilian immigrant. He works as a street sweeper in the Loures municipality and is also a forest firefighter in the same area.

Apart from the lies, other details add to the mystery surrounding her disappearance. Her bank card, where she received her salary, disappeared, and several files, including emails, were deleted from her computer.

There is also a note left in the Bible and a suspicious letter. “I am married to Luís Jesus, whom I love very much and I am very happy and grateful,” read the note, allegedly written by Maria Francisca and found in the Bible by her brother in her home.

Ismael Tomé, the landlord, reported to SIC Notícias that they found a letter in which Francisca mentioned “disappointment.” Accompanying it was also a ring, leading the landlord to believe the Brazilian woman argued with her boyfriend.

Her brother, meanwhile, raised further suspicions of Luís Jesus’ involvement in the disappearance in an interview with SIC’s program Linha Aberta.

“There are reports from neighbors and others who have been deceived by him. Search his property. There is a cellar in that house [of Francisca’s boyfriend],” he assured.

António even received a report that Luís Jesus had kept his sister “in private detention in that cellar.”
