A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Alcobaça on strong suspicion of murdering a 71-year-old man last July in the municipality of Águeda, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced on Wednesday, October 15, in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto.
According to investigators, the investigation began on July 22 after the victim was found by family members in his home with “multiple traumatic injuries.”
During the investigation, it was determined that the victim had a “random and accidental” encounter with the suspect, who already had a “police record” linked to drug trafficking and use, as well as a wide range of other crimes against persons and property.
Faced with “multiple indications,” arrest warrants were issued to detain the suspect, who was apprehended outside of Alcobaça, an area where he had regularly stayed since the date of the incident.
Following an initial judicial hearing, the alleged killer was remanded in custody.
