The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced that arrests were made by the Criminal Information Unit, following warrants issued by the Central Criminal Court of Penafiel.
The detained individuals, a 46-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman, were sentenced to eight and seven years in prison, respectively, for their involvement in a fraudulent scheme initiated in 2013.
According to the investigation, the couple, in coordination with other accomplices, established a front company to launch an alleged investment project, claiming significant financial capacity and an international presence.
By promising returns higher than those offered by banking institutions, they persuaded several victims to hand over large sums of money, which were never returned.
The two sentenced individuals were taken directly to prison facilities to serve their sentences.
