Five men were arrested on Tuesday, November 25, for attempting to kill two construction workers in Barreiro, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced in a statement.
Inspectors indicated that the suspects, aged between 19 and 30, are “strongly suspected of a double attempted homicide on the afternoon of May 27 in the city of Barreiro.”
The victims, aged 42 and 55, were construction workers traveling in a vehicle at the site where they were working.
As they were leaving, they were confronted by one of the suspects entering the vehicle, leading them to tell him he wasn’t allowed to do so.
Irritated by the request, the suspect threw a large stone at the vehicle, forcing the occupants to stop.
He then called the other suspects, and armed with “large stones,” they violently attacked the victims, mainly targeting their heads, until they lost consciousness.
Due to what the PJ described as “barbaric and gratuitous assaults,” the victims were transported to the hospital, where they remained for several days.
The detainees, who have no prior criminal records, will now be brought before the court for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
