A 56-year-old man has been arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ), being “strongly suspected of disseminating a video on social media inciting violence against a group of people of a certain nationality.”
“In these posts, the now-detained individual is seen offering a monetary sum to those who would violently threaten the lives of specific foreign citizens, thus gravely affecting the community’s sense of peace and security, prompting a wave of indignation and reports to the authorities,” reads a statement sent to newsrooms this Tuesday.
It should be noted that the 58-year-old Portuguese stated in the video that he was offering “500 euros” for each “Brazilian head.”
It also notes that the video went “viral,” mobilizing “public opinion across various sectors and causing significant social alarm.”

The 58-year-old Portuguese man who shared a video on social media with xenophobic threats against the Brazilian community admitted that he went “too far” but was “angry” because his mobile phone was stolen. Despite this, his former employer stated he was dismissed due to recurrent similar behavior.
The PJ also reports that it “was already investigating the suspect before receiving the reports, which only corroborated the severity of the suspect’s conduct.”
The detained individual, who already has a criminal record for property crimes, will be presented to the judicial authority for interrogation and the imposition of coercive measures.
