A 45-year-old man has been arrested in the municipality of Loulé for the aggravated crimes of rape and domestic violence, the Judiciary Police (PJ) revealed in a statement on Friday.
According to inspectors, the suspect subjected the victim, a 50-year-old woman, to “physical, psychological mistreatment, physical assault, and sexual offenses” over a 13-year period.
The PJ noted that many of the psychological mistreatment and threats occurred in the presence of the couple’s daughter, who is now 13 years old.
All incidents of aggression took place within the couple’s shared home, controlled entirely by the suspect.
Following the report, authorities conducted an investigation and, faced with various “relevant evidential elements,” a warrant for arrest was issued outside the act.
The man has been taken into custody and will now face an initial judicial interrogation to determine the appropriate precautionary measures.
