A spokesperson for the PJ informed that evidence collected so far indicates that the fire originated from a controlled burn that got out of hand.
“Everything suggests it was an accident. The woman was elderly and likely became disoriented due to smoke, eventually being caught by the flames,” said the spokesperson.
The fire ignited in Silveira, near the Cedrim industrial area, also causing minor injuries to a man who required medical attention and was later transported to Aveiro Hospital.
The fire alarm was raised around 13:30, with more than 60 personnel from various Central region fire brigades deployed to the scene, supported by around twenty vehicles and an aerial unit.
