The Polícia Judiciária, through the Criminal Investigation Department of Madeira, has achieved its largest seizure of synthetic drugs in the region to date.
In a statement, this security force announced the arrest of two individuals—a 34-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman—in connection with a drug trafficking operation, executing three home search warrants and one non-home search, in Câmara de Lobos and Funchal.
The suspects were caught in the act and are strongly linked to drug trafficking offenses. They had no prior criminal records.
The arrests occurred after months of investigation, under the supervision of the DIAP of Funchal.
During the operation, various types of drugs were confiscated, including approximately 30 kg of synthetic cannabinoids (bloom) and cannabis leaves, equivalent to about 50,000 individual doses on the illicit market; two high-end vehicles, over 5,000 euros in cash, and a vacuum packing machine.
The detainees will be brought before the Judicial Court of Funchal for their initial judicial hearing to determine pre-trial conditions.
