A significant drug seizure as part of measures against international drug trafficking was executed using refrigerated containers. Authorities disclosed that one of these containers showed signs of tampering in the area housing the refrigeration unit.
“Upon inspection of the refrigerated containers, signals of intrusion were found in the section containing the refrigeration unit, revealing numerous packages of cocaine with a high purity level,” the PJ’s statement confirmed.
The transportation method involved the ‘rip-off’ technique, requiring operatives to remove the drugs from the container before reaching the final recipient.
“This operation, based on international cooperation mechanisms, resulted in the interception and examination of several maritime transport containers originating from Uruguay,” clarified the police.
The Northern Directorate of the PJ is “intensifying prevention and investigation activities” at the Port of Leixões, described as “one of the principal entry points for illicit goods in the northern region of the country.”
The PJ stated that investigations are ongoing.
