This event celebrates and promotes two of the most iconic delicacies from the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, the plangaio and the maranho.
According to the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, in the district of Castelo Branco, the plangaio and the maranho consumed at the festival will be served by associations from the União de Freguesias de Sobreira Formosa e Alvito da Beira.
The festival kicks off on the 19th with performances by João Carvalho & Diogo da Gaita, the itinerant theater by Cia Mimabô, “As velhas do Plangaio,” and the energy of N’ASA in a tribute concert to Portuguese rock.
The night ends with DJ Kadiv.
On the following day, the event starts at 15:00 with Fanfarra Bizarra and continues with a ‘showcooking’ session by chef Joana Barrios.
The day also features the itinerant theatrical entertainment of Teatro Váatão and, in the evening, a concert by Portuguese musician Toy.
On the festival’s final day, highlights include the group of Cavaquinhos do Estreito, the Ateliê de Pão de Trigo e Broa de Milho conducted by officials from Associação da Póvoa, the fanfare of Váatão, and a concert by Violas para Voz, concluding with the traditional fireworks display.
The Festival of Plangaio and Maranho attracts thousands of visitors each year to celebrate the flavors and culture of Proença-a-Nova, combining gastronomy, music, and tradition.
