
According to José Manuel Figueiredo, a leader of the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans), the delay is due to a disagreement with the company’s administration regarding the planned organization of the assembly which was to be held at Cais do Sodré.
On Wednesday, the company announced in a statement that the river transport service between the south bank and Lisbon might face disruptions this afternoon due to the workers’ assembly.
The company specified that the workers’ assembly was scheduled to take place from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
Fectrans convened the assembly to discuss with workers the objectives of their demands and mobilization for the general strike on December 11.
The CGTP and the UGT called the general strike in response to the government’s proposed labor legislation reform, marking the first joint action by the two union centers since June 2013, when Portugal was under ‘troika’ intervention.
Transtejo Soflusa SA is responsible for ferry connections between Seixal, Montijo, Cacilhas, Barreiro, and Trafaria/Porto Brandão in the Setúbal district and Lisbon.
