“The economic weakening of Russia is a pathway to achieving peace [in Ukraine], increased security, and deterrence of more aggressive attitudes from the Russian Federation“, stated Luís Montenegro, during a press conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, following a meeting of the European Political Community.
Shortly after a bilateral meeting with the Ukrainian President, Luís Montenegro echoed the request of Volodymyr Zelensky made earlier in the morning for the definitive cessation of Russian liquefied natural gas imports.
“Portugal is ready to make that effort, as it is especially committed to further boosting its energy production, which is exclusively based on renewable sources,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
However, Luís Montenegro did not commit to a specific timeline for achieving this ambition.
The Prime Minister stated that Portugal can “contribute to the European space not only with increased production capacity but ensuring that this production is green, clean, and environmentally friendly; it’s a win-win situation.”
