The Republican National Guard (GNR) shared details on Saturday about the location of a 62-year-old man who had gone missing in the town of Abrunheira, in the municipality of Arganil. According to the authorities, everything ended well thanks to the dog Coca.
“Thanks to our Belgian Malinois Shepherd dog, Coca, we were able to locate a man alive,” the GNR informed on Facebook.
In the note, the authority also warned that “the disappearance of people is a phenomenon to which the Guard has been particularly attentive, not only due to the effort developed to allow the location of the missing, but especially for the prevention of this type of occurrence.”
They provided the following advice:
– Family members should be aware if the elderly are still in their full physical and mental capacities to be able to leave home alone without risking getting lost;
– Family members should try to know the routines of the elderly and have information about where they intend to go when they leave home, so that if they are late returning, they can start their search there;
– Whenever possible, the elderly should carry a switched-on mobile phone so that, if necessary, they can contact or be contacted by their family members and, in case of disappearance, be more easily located through cellular location;
– The elderly should always have their family members’ contacts with them so that, in case of disorientation, other people can contact them.
It should be noted that on Friday, the GNR revealed that they had located a 62-year-old man with a mental illness alive after a report on Thursday.
The search operations were supported by drones from the Emergency Protection and Rescue Unit (UEPS) and the use of canine units. The man was eventually found near his family’s residence.
