Police with 25,327 cases of domestic violence, the highest in seven years

The portal of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG) reports that security forces recorded 10,558 incidents between July 1 and September 30.

During the same period, there were five homicides in the context of domestic violence, bringing the total number of fatalities to 18 this year, of whom 16 were women and two were men.

The portal, which compiles data since October 2018, reveals that the number of incidents in a single quarter has not been this high in the past seven years. The closest figure was in the third quarter of 2022, with 8,887 cases.

The number of homicides in the first nine months of 2025 is equal to that of the same period in 2024 and lower than, for example, 2022.

Overall, as of September 30, PSP and GNR recorded 22,362 incidents in 2019; 21,623 in 2020; 19,781 in 2021; 23,264 in 2022; 23,306 in 2023; and 23,302 in 2024.

According to the 2024 Annual Internal Security Report (RASI), last year the police received 30,221 reports of domestic violence and recorded 23 homicides in intimate contexts.
