Polls predict a victory for AD? PS downplays it: “There’s something for everyone.”

The Secretary-General of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, argued that the country would not achieve political stability if Luís Montenegro wins the upcoming early legislative elections, as the government would continue to have a “prime minister shrouded in suspicions.”

“It is important to have stability and to close this chapter. We will not achieve this if, after the elections, Luís Montenegro is the winner. The government will continue shadowed by suspicions—some of them serious—such as those reported this past weekend,” stated Pedro Nuno in remarks to journalists in Castelo Branco.

When asked about the polls suggesting a victory for the AD, Pedro Nuno mentioned that “there are polls of all kinds,” with some also giving an advantage to the PS.

“The essential thing is to present an alternative project. We have been promoting a series of round tables with PS leaders and many independents. We are preparing a political response to the problems facing the Portuguese, a project that will solve issues the PSD could not resolve or initiate in the last year. The things the PSD claims as positive today were already in place a year ago,” added the PS Secretary-General.

The PS National Political Commission will meet on Wednesday to approve the lists of candidates for the early legislative elections.

According to the notice signed by the party leader, Pedro Nuno Santos, the meeting will have as its sole item the “approval of the lists of candidates for election as Deputies to the Assembly of the Republic.”

As per the schedule released by the National Election Commission (CNE), candidacies must be submitted by April 7 to the presiding judge of the district court based in the capital of the electoral circle.
