Ponta Delgada warns of fraud using the animal collection center

Fraudulent content is circulating on social media, misusing the name of the Ponta Delgada Animal Shelter (CRO), according to a statement from the municipal authorities.

The city council confirms this is an attempted scam and will report it to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The statement clarifies that the phone number distributed does not belong to the CRO, “the amounts mentioned do not match current rates,” and the return of animals “is always accompanied by an invoice issued by municipal services, with payment made at the City Hall service desk, never via MB Way or other means.”

The council urges residents to “remain vigilant and use only official channels for any contact” with the Ponta Delgada CRO.

The Ponta Delgada CRO was inaugurated on April 27, 2007, at Estrada das Murtas, near Azores Park.

As stated on the city council’s website, the facility includes 59 kennels, six of which are adapted for cats, with a total capacity for about 200 animals.

“Stray animals entering the Ponta Delgada CRO come from the municipality of Ponta Delgada, as well as from the municipalities of Vila Franca do Campo and Povoação, under the Companion Animal Acceptance Protocol established with these municipalities,” the statement adds.
