“Porrada” is actually “morada”: Accusations between Hugo Soares and André Ventura

The alleged threat from PSD parliamentary leader Hugo Soares to Chega deputy Pedro Frazão resurfaced on Monday, sparking exchanges between the social democrat and André Ventura.

The controversy dates back to an incident on September 17, where Hugo Soares and Pedro Frazão had a heated exchange, with the PSD leader provocatively inviting the other deputy to his home.

The words that followed led to a complaint from Chega in parliament. The party claimed that Hugo Soares said, “I’ll beat you up” in the Assembly of the Republic.

In reality, according to the Parliamentary Committee on Transparency, Hugo Soares said: “I’ll give you the address.” The complaint from Chega was therefore dismissed.

The video of the moment was released by the party itself, captioned according to its version of events, and can be seen below.

This is the same video Hugo Soares now demands André Ventura remove from social media, due to the commission’s decision, stating the Chega leader “distorted” reality deliberately.

“Deputy André Ventura published a video where he deliberately distorted my words with false captions. I would like to tell deputy André Ventura that he has the opportunity today, until the end of the day, to show democratic respect, respect for the institutions (if not for anyone else) by removing the video and doing something as simple as apologizing,” declared the president of the PSD Parliamentary Group.

He added: “We already knew Chega confused burgers with citizens, and now we know Chega also confuses addresses with beatings.”

Hugo Soares considered that André Ventura published “a fake video, with fake captions”.

“I know he says he never goes back on his word, but in this case, it would be appropriate for him to apologize. I doubt he has the humility to apologize after making a mistake”, he remarked.

Through the examination of recordings by the parliamentary services, it was concluded that Hugo Soares spoke of “addresses” and not “beatings”, which led to the dismissal of the complaint from the Chega deputy.

Ventura Accuses Journalists of “Suppressing” the Case

In response, André Ventura continued to support the party’s view on the incident, reiterating that the PSD parliamentary leader threatened to “beat up” another deputy.

“The country saw a clear video where the PSD’s secretary-general threatens Chega deputies, audibly in Parliament: ‘I’ll beat you up.’ These are the words”, he asserted.

The Chega leader then pointed fingers at journalists and media outlets, accusing them of not reporting this situation, whereas the previous week they “opened and closed” news programs with the moment Filipe Melo blew kisses to PS deputy Isabel Moreira.

“Some are sons, and others are stepsons. And in democracy, there are no sons or stepsons”, he stated in a social media post titled ‘Journalists Suppress Threats Against Chega.’

“It seems there’s a country in the hands of PS and PSD, and they can’t break free from it,” he accused.

He previously stated “It’s not fair for the country, but it’s not fair especially for democracy, that in a case where violence is visible, evident, notorious, you try to hide this.”

It should be noted that just last week the national press published the news of the complaint made by deputy Pedro Frazão to the Committee on Transparency and Deputies’ Statute of being threatened the previous week.

Ventura responde a Soares:

The PSD secretary-general, Hugo Soares, accused André Ventura’s party of having ‘fake’ candidates, as “they are candidates who are 300 km, 200 km away from the municipality they are running for” and thus do not know the problems of the areas they are contesting.
