As the fair begins, the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library unveils the exhibition titled ‘O Meu Sérgio’, a project by Tiago Manuel. Described as the best way for visual artists to pay tribute to the extensive work of Sérgio Godinho, it features pieces by eight Portuguese comic book authors.
Also opening today is ‘Os Amigos do Gaspar’, an exhibition inviting visitors to watch episodes, listen to songs, make puppets, engage in games, or simply explore the children’s room of the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. It showcases live and colorful artistic installations of various puppets that formed the basis of this entertaining story.
In the acoustic shell of the gardens, artist Mariana, a miserável has painted ‘A Minhoca’, inspired by a verse from Godinho’s song ‘Lá Isso É’.
“The giant apple, our freedom and democracy, carried carefully, is under threat unnoticed. The worm eats the apple from the inside and infests like a thought in a distracted mind. Any resemblance to current reality is not mere coincidence, but as the song says, ‘the people command the people / Oh, that’s clear, clear,'” stated the artist, quoted on the fair’s website.
On Saturday, Sérgio Godinho will be honored with the lime tree tribute and the city’s medal of honor, followed by a conversation at the library’s Auditorium led by the tribute’s commissioner, editor Francisco José Viegas. On the fair’s final day, September 7, Sérgio Godinho will perform a concert with guest Manuela Azevedo.
An influential figure in Portuguese music over recent decades, Sérgio Godinho was born on August 31, 1945, in Porto, in a family immersed in Culture and Arts. Earlier this year, he referred to Porto as the city he considers his root and reference point.
