The public tender launched on Thursday by the municipal company Domus Social seeks to “acquire services for assessing the needs of isolated elderly individuals over 70 and couples over 75, as well as monitoring elderly individuals identified as at risk of social isolation, diagnosis, and intervention.”
Valued at 116,000 euros, the city council extends the “Porto Importa-se” program, operational since 2017, for 36 more months.
The municipality clarified that the goal is for all 2,305 isolated elderly individuals in its housing to undergo needs assessment, identification, diagnosis, and intervention, providing a current and realistic portrait of their situation (both those previously visited and new target group members).
Since 2017, about 2,850 isolated elderly have been contacted and visited, and 519 cases have been identified as requiring priority intervention due to severe social isolation, according to the city council.
“The case diagnoses were identified, discussed, and addressed with nearby social support structures, aiming to align physical, mental, social, and emotional needs with community responses, optimizing and enhancing the aging process,” the municipality added.
