Porto’s transport begins installing QR codes with Unir schedules

The implementation of ‘QR codes’ on covered stops is set to begin today, providing users immediate access to the schedules without the need for a mobile app, according to the project’s leader.

By scanning the QR code, users can access qhoras.unirmobilidade.pt, where they can see the upcoming bus arrivals, view the route map, and check schedules for alternative dates and times. The map can also be zoomed to view any stop within the network.

Around 3,200 shelters in a total network of 11,900 stops will be equipped, starting today at terminals Hospital São João, Polo Universitário, and Asprela in Porto. The rollout will continue on Tuesday across other Porto terminals and from Wednesday from Vila do Conde southwards, with the process expected to take two months.

Currently, only scheduled times are available, with real-time schedules planned for the next phase.

Since the Unir network’s launch in December 2023, the absence of schedules has been a major complaint, along with other service-related issues.

The Unir network includes Nex Continental operating in the Norte Nascente area (Santo Tirso/Valongo/Paredes/Gondomar), Porto Mobilidade in Norte Poente (Póvoa de Varzim/Vila do Conde), Vianorbus in Norte Centro (Maia/Matosinhos/Trofa), Transportes Beira Douro in Sul Poente (Vila Nova de Gaia and Espinho), and Xerbus in Sul Nascente (Santa Maria da Feira/São João da Madeira/Arouca/Oliveira de Azeméis/Vale de Cambra).
