
“Considering the current conflict between Israel and Iran, all travel to the region is currently advised against,” reads a message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
The Portuguese embassy in Tel Aviv has provided an emergency consular contact (+972 54 5451172) “due to the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran and the closure of Israeli airspace.”
This number is intended “exclusively for emergencies and special situations directly related to the current moment,” the Portuguese embassy announced through social media, urging citizens to remain safe and heed Israeli authorities’ instructions.
The Lusa agency has sought information from the MFA regarding Portuguese residents in Israel and Iran, but no response has been obtained so far.
Israel and Iran have been at war since early Friday morning when Tel Aviv bombed Iranian military and nuclear facilities, causing at least 78 deaths, including military leadership and scientists, and hundreds of injuries, according to Iranian diplomacy.
The Israeli attacks, carried out by 200 aircraft against hundreds of targets, mainly hit Tehran (north) and the Natanz uranium enrichment plant (center).
Iran retaliated by launching hundreds of missiles into Israeli territory, with explosions reported over the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, resulting in at least three deaths and dozens of injuries.
