A Aldeia de Natal, held from November 29 to January 6, 2026, highlights its program with the “Fábrica do Riso,” a studio set up in the Guimarães Castle where visitors can record messages to be later delivered to various pediatric hospital wards nationwide.
Another key feature of the experience is the area featuring traditional houses hosting the Christmas Market, showcasing typical products and seasonal gastronomy, as revealed by the Bissaya Barreto Foundation in a statement sent to the Lusa news agency.
The event also features the giant KitKat tree, a unique structure in Portugal decorated with thousands of chocolates.
The opening session includes the official lighting ceremony at 5:15 PM on November 29, marking the symbolic start of the Christmas program.
“The Christmas decoration extends throughout the park, including about two thousand ornaments painted by primary school students, strengthening school involvement and the community dimension of the project,” the institution highlighted.
Specific days at Guimarães Castle will offer Christmas performances by Rodolfo Castro, known as “The Worst Storyteller in the World,” while the “Story House,” located in Espaço Alentejo, will present daily recorded storytelling sessions.
Santa Claus will not only tour the village but also be present at the University of Coimbra Library to meet children for conversations and photos.
“At the Alcobaça Monastery, the Cookie Workshop invites children and families to roll up their sleeves and make Christmas cookies in various flavors,” an activity that costs three euros and has limited spots.
According to Nuno Gonçalves, director of Portugal dos Pequenitos, cited in the statement, the goal is “for every corner of the park to inspire enchantment and solidarity among all visitors.”
During the Aldeia de Natal period, the park will be open for two extra hours, operating from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Portugal dos Pequenitos, a venue of the Bissaya Barreto Foundation located on the left bank of the Mondego River in Coimbra, features thematic areas representing Portugal’s regions and Portuguese-speaking territories, designed for all ages.
