The director of Portugal dos Pequenitos, Nuno Gonçalves, who has been in office for about a month, wants to focus on continuous improvement of the quality of this theme park, located in Coimbra.
Our main concern is to make continuous improvement. Is we can transform each visitation into a unique experience, a cultural and historical wealth and that all visitors leave Portugal dos Pequenitos more ‘rich’, than when they entered, “said today to the Lusa agency the director of this park, Nuno Gonçalves.
“If we manage to do this we are honoring all the heritage of our patron Professor Bissaya Barreto,” he maintained.
The Portugal dos Pequenitos (Little Portugal) is a recreational, pedagogical and tourist space, which shows aspects of Portuguese culture and heritage, in Portugal and in the world.
The idea is, from now on, to create more content, to make this space more dynamic and, consequently, to bring more visitors, always with a concern for “quality and richness of content, in an educational and multiformat logic.
The park has 13 pavilions/galleries with different interaction.
For example, in São Tomé and Príncipe it is possible to get to know the “best chocolate in the world”, with interactions for children, but also for adults.
One of the concerns is to create content and adapt it, either from the communication point of view, or more structurally, in a playful and pedagogical component.
Located in the Rossio de Santa Clara square, on the left bank of the Mondego river in Coimbra, the Portugal dos Pequenitos has determined a theme per month, with various initiatives, namely workshops and reading sessions, around the same theme.
This June, the theme is India, so until June 27, on weekends and holidays, new stories and challenges will be presented, under the activity “There are stories in the Park”.
At 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM, a tale from India will be told, with the book “The Two Wolves” by Wilfred, from Akiara Publishing, which tells “a legend about the good wolf and the bad wolf that lives inside each one of us.
During these days, in the construction workshop, which takes place every day in the Alcobaça space, from 10:30 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 17:30, except on Tuesday afternoons, in which children are invited to prepare the “meal with the ingredients they want to feed their inner wolf.
Portugal dos Pequenitos has prepared a treasure hunt on Thursday, the day that marks 83 years since its inauguration.
The activity, included in the ticket to the park, will take place in five sessions, at 11:00, 12:00, 14:30, 15:30 and 16:30, with 20 children per session, with prior registration on site.
“It is an activity that makes a full interaction of what are the three areas of the park between the pavilions of Portugal and the World, between the Portugal Monumental part and between the regional houses. This interaction allows a better knowledge of many details that normally go unnoticed, in a normal visit,” he sustained.
Nuno Gonçalves said that, in 2019, the Portugal dos Pequenitos received 280 thousand visitors and, in 2022, it welcomed 220 thousand people.
The goal for this year is to exceed the number achieved in 2022.
