Portugal experiences uncertainty and “it is almost natural” to look “to the future with fear.”

“Today in Portugal, we live in uncertain times,” declared the Bishop of Setúbal during the homily of the Easter Vigil, the most significant moment for Catholics.

“We had elections recently, yet we are already preparing for new ones; many questions linger, doubts are fueled, accusations spread,” continued the cardinal, appointed in 2023 by Pope Francis, referring to the legislative elections scheduled for May 18.

For the bishop, “Considering everything happening, it almost seems natural to look to the future with fear, distrust, and fatigue when we even dare to look to the future,” he added during the homily at the Church of Santa Maria da Graça, the Cathedral of Setúbal.
