“Ten years later, all solidarity to the victims, the families, the French people. Portugal always stands with freedom, democracy, tolerance, and the uncompromising and relentless fight against terrorism,” wrote the Portuguese Foreign Minister in a brief message on the social media platform X, marking the anniversary and mentioning Bataclan, one of the targets of the jihadist attacks in Paris.
France marks today the 10th anniversary of the November 13, 2015, terrorist attacks, which resulted in 132 deaths and over 350 injuries in Paris.
In the Bataclan concert hall alone, where a concert was taking place that day, 90 people lost their lives.
The ceremonies honoring the victims began this morning at the Stade de France, in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, attended by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The French President started the day of remembrance at the site where Manuel Dias, a 63-year-old retired Portuguese man working as a driver, became the first victim of the attacks when a suicide bomber detonated near one of the stadium’s entrances.
The tributes continued at various locations across the capital, including the cafes and restaurants that were attacked and the Bataclan concert hall, a symbol of the tragedy, before the inauguration of a “memory garden” situated in front of the Paris City Hall.
In a message on Facebook, Emmanuel Macron reflected on the enduring impact of the attacks.
“Ten years. The pain remains. In solidarity, for the interrupted lives, the injured, the families and loved ones, France remembers,” wrote the President, emphasizing that the country “will never forget” the victims of November 13.
The 2015 coordinated attacks, claimed by the Islamic State group, were the deadliest in France since World War II.
