Artificial intelligence will be used to help citizens access justice, validate the authenticity of documents and anonymously disseminate judicial decisions, according to the strategy the Government is presenting today in Lisbon.

“Portugal will be the first country worldwide to use the same technology that is at the basis of ChatGTP”, using a model of “machine learning”, in which the computer system will perfect knowledge to inform people about the different services in the judicial sphere and the records that are available via the Internet.

The new strategy, which relies on partnerships with universities and “startup” companies in the technological area, will also be applied to the validation of the authenticity of documents required for nationality processes, where artificial intelligence will speed up the dematerialization of requests.

The anonymization of court decisions, allowing their public disclosure without jeopardizing personal data, is also included in this project. According to the same source, the technology will allow the automation of this process, removing the need to allocate judicial employees to this task, which has been done manually until now.

The presentation of the ‘GovTech Justice Strategy’ is scheduled for 11am, at the Campus of Justice, in Lisbon, in an event attended by the Minister of Justice, Catarina Sarmento e Castro, and the Secretaries of State Jorge Alves Costa and Pedro Ferrão Tavares.
