
The spotlight was on Marco Malheiro from Ponte de Lima (Viana do Castelo) for his gold medal in welding, and the team of Diogo Pinto from Lousada (Porto) and Loris Sgroj from Celorico de Basto (Braga) for their gold in robotic systems integration.
The silver medal for Portugal was awarded to the duo Diogo Botelho and Simão Alves, both from Torres Vedras (Lisbon), in mechatronics.
Botelho and Alves also won the Jos de Goey Award, which is given to the competitor with the highest score from each country. They achieved 777 points, the highest for Portugal.
This award, considered Europe’s Best Prize, honors the former president of EuroSkills, Dutchman Jos de Goey, who passed away suddenly in 2020.
Despite their gold medal victory, Marco Malheiro scored 738 points, and the Pinto-Sgroj team scored 728.
The four Medals of Excellence were awarded to Leonor Silva from Santa Maria da Feira (Aveiro) in hairdressing, Dmitry Zhivitsa from Águeda (Aveiro) in milling, Nelson Ribeiro from Felgueiras (Porto) in industrial control, and Bruno Ribeiro from Vila Real in electrical installations.
The EuroSkills competition took place from Tuesday until today in Herning, Jutland Peninsula, where Portugal fielded 15 young participants competing across 13 professional fields. The event attracted approximately 3,000 visitors.
Today, the young Portuguese competitors received their medals at the Jyske Bank Boxen during the closing ceremony of what is considered the “Olympics of Professions.”
The European Skills Championship is set to occur again in 2027.
The 10th edition of EuroSkills will be co-organized by Germany and Luxembourg in Düsseldorf, scheduled to take place from September 22 to 26, 2026, at the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition center.
