
The official Grammy website has announced that Bráulio Amado and Alim Smith, the art directors of “Balloonerism,” have been nominated in the “Best Recording Package” category, which honors the visual aspects of albums, including cover design and graphics.
“Balloonerism” is the seventh studio album by Mac Miller, and the second released posthumously following the rapper’s death in 2018.
Recorded in 2014, the album comprises 14 tracks and includes a collaboration with Sza. It was released in January this year.
Bráulio Amado and Alim Smith compete for the Grammy against art directors Hà Trinh Quoc Bao, Damian Kulash, Jr., Claudio Ripol, Wombi Rose, and Yuri Suzuki (for “And The Adjacent Possible” by OK Go), Rory McCartney (“Dance Macabre” by Duran Duran), Farbod Kokabi and Emily Sneddon (“Loud Is As” by Tsunami), Tim Breen and Ken Shipley (“Sequoia,” a compilation of various artists), Miller McCormick (“The Spins” by Mac Miller), and Meghan Foley and Michelle Holme (“Tracks II: The Lost Albums” by Bruce Springsteen).
Bráulio Amado, born in Almada in 1987, has lived in New York since 2011.
Bráulio Amado creates posters, album covers, and illustrations for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times or Wired, as well as videos, and other items such as t-shirts, wine labels, websites, socks, or towels, according to detailed information on the designer and illustrator’s official website.
Among the many artists and bands for whom Bráulio Amado has already created album and single covers are Frank Ocean, André 3000, Róisín Murphy, Xinobi, Rex Orange County, D’Alva, Washed Out, and Moullinex.
The winners of the 68th Grammy Awards will be announced on February 1 at a ceremony in Los Angeles, United States.
American rapper Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations with nine nods in categories such as Record of the Year (featuring “luther,” a duet with Sza), Song of the Year (“luther”), and Album of the Year (“GNX”), as well as Best Rap Song (“tv off”), Best Rap Album (“GNX”), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“luther”).
American singer Lady Gaga, American musician and producer Jack Antonoff, and Canadian producer and songwriter Cirkut follow Kendrick Lamar on the list of most nominated for the 68th Grammy Awards, with seven nominations each.
