“A total of 146 Portuguese individuals entered Andorra in 2024,” according to data from the Statistics Department of Andorra. This department recorded a total of 4,591 foreign entries into the country, with the Portuguese representing 3.2% of immigration that year,” reads a statement from the Emigration Observatory.
The Observatory notes that “after a slight decrease in 2023, the emigration of Portuguese to Andorra registered a more significant drop in 2024,” amounting to 26.6%, which paralleled the general decline in migration to the territory of 24.1%.
“Following a peak in 2005, emigration to this country declined sharply between that year and 2014, remaining stable at comparatively low levels since then,” the text further states, noting that “2008 saw the largest drop, with 54%, reflecting the abrupt and deep nature of the Spanish real estate crisis.”
The drop in 2024 contrasts with the trend of recent years, which recorded a “very slight increase,” according to the Observatory. It concludes that there has been “a relative loss of importance of Portuguese immigration,” as “in 2007, Portuguese accounted for 34.9% of migrant entries in Andorra, whereas in 2024, they represented only 3.2%.”
