A 40-year-old man, apprehended by the Spanish Guardia Civil in Pontevedra on April 16, has been extradited by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on Tuesday. He is suspected of the murder of a woman in Setúbal last year.
On June 16, 2024, the crime was committed when the man allegedly “fired several shots with a firearm, fatally wounding the 32-year-old victim who was driving on a public road,” the PJ recalled on Wednesday.
Authorities determined that the day prior, “disturbances broke out on a street in the Bairro da Belavista in Setúbal, involving several people and gunfire, causing damage to residences.”
“Seeking revenge for the situation from the previous day, and knowing that one of the individuals who fired shots toward his residence drove a vehicle similar to that of the victim, the suspect ended up shooting at her,” the report states.
The man then “assumed the identity of a twin brother” and fled to Spain. He was arrested following a European arrest warrant executed by the Guardia Civil after a “prolonged information exchange with the PJ.”
The individual was brought before the Judicial Court of the Setúbal district for an initial hearing and was remanded in custody.
