Portuguese Navy marines who are in Lithuania preparing for a NATO mission took part this morning in the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of that country’s entry into the Atlantic Alliance.
“The Marines, who are already in that country preparing for the mission that will begin in April, were invited by the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausèda, to take part this morning in the event marking the 20th anniversary of that country’s accession to the Atlantic Alliance,” the Navy said in a statement.
Lithuania has been a member of NATO since March 29, 2004.
The Navy has been present, through the Marine Force, in Lithuania as part of NATO’s Tranquilization measures since 2018 and this year’s mission will begin on April 4 and end on July 2.
According to the Navy, the Portuguese force consists of 146 soldiers and is commanded by Marine Lieutenant Nuno Correia Marques.
