The Portuguese Navy monitored and accompanied two Russian supply ships, named Yaz and General Skobelev, over the past four days as they passed by Portugal.
In a statement, the Navy explained that the ships were monitored through the Maritime Operations Center and the NRP Setúbal. “They began navigating along the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the continent on August 31 and completed their passage this morning, September 3, heading towards the Baltic Sea.”
“Through these monitoring and surveillance actions, the Navy ensures the defense and security of maritime spaces under national sovereignty, jurisdiction, or responsibility, contributes to the protection of Portugal’s interests and its critical infrastructure, and simultaneously ensures compliance with international commitments made within the framework of the Atlantic Alliance,” the statement reads.
