Portuguese people voted yesterday on local power. Who won in your county?

The election night of Sunday, October 12, was extended. Several municipalities in the country experienced tight races and technical ties, notably in Lisbon, Porto, and Sintra, where socialists and social democrats held their breath until the last minute.

After the votes were counted, results showed that Portuguese voters continue to favor PSD and PS for local power. The party led by Luís Montenegro secured 136 municipalities (some in coalition), while the one led by José Luís Carneiro won in 128 (two in coalition). CDU recorded its worst result ever, retaining only 12 municipalities. Meanwhile, Chega, which aimed for 60, managed only two.

This year, voters were called to elect leadership for the 308 Municipal Chambers, 308 Municipal Assemblies, and 3,221 Parish Assemblies, across three different ballots.

The abstention rate, although still at 40.74%, marked the lowest since 2005, over five percentage points below that recorded four years ago.

If you’re still unsure about who won in your municipality or parish or are simply curious about the electoral map, all results can be checked here.
