Portuguese singer: “One of the best” on The Voice in Spain

Diva Oliveira, a young woman from Viana do Castelo, was a contestant on the talent show “La Voz,” the Spanish equivalent of “The Voice Portugal,” where she captivated with her performances singing in Portuguese.

In her blind audition, Diva Oliveira impressed the judges with “Chuva” by the fado singer Mariza, turning the chairs of Mika and Malú.

“You have a lot of Portugal, but also a lot of potential to sing anything. You are one of the best singers we’ve heard so far,” said singer Mika at the time.

However, Diva chose to join Malú’s team but was later saved to join Mika’s team.

In subsequent rounds, the 23-year-old chose songs like “Meu Fado Meu,” by Mariza and Miguel Poveda, and most recently, in the semifinals, “Canção do Mar” by Dulce Pontes. Despite the judges’ praise, the Portuguese singer did not advance to the next stage.

“The most powerful thing about your performance was leaving the world around you to enter the song. You left the competition, the studio, the audience to enter the world of the song without thinking about the consequences. Musically and artistically speaking, it’s the bravest thing an artist can do,” said Mika, who became globally known in 2007 with the song “Grace Kelly.”

According to information available on the “La Voz” website, despite being Portuguese, Diva has “strong ties with Spain” and did Erasmus in Madrid, “where she had her first contact with music.”

“Now she’s a street singer crossing the border to perform on the streets of Vigo. She describes herself as a butterfly in full musical metamorphosis. Her friends describe her as a fairy tale person: sometimes dreamy, fun, and very energetic, though reserved and unpredictable,” it reads.

The show—which alongside Mika and Malú also features Pablo López and Sebastián Yatra as judges—is moving forward to the second semifinal with contestants Kimy, Oihan, Audrey, Victoria, Antía, Aroa, Pedro, and Javier.
